Introduced in the latter part of 1945, the TC Midget took its roots from the pre-war 1,250cc XPAG-powered TB model, boasting similar performance metrics with a top speed hovering around 78mph. It featured a broader body, widened by 4 inches, and incorporated enhanced suspension equipped with Luvax-Girling hydraulic dampers. Out of all the cars in its class, it was the MG TC that ignited the enduring American fascination with British sports cars. The United States became a significant market for this model, with over 10,000 units sold by the close of 1949.
In October 1945, The Autocar magazine succinctly captured the essence of the MG TC, remarking, “No car has contributed as much to the preservation of open-air motoring and the fulfillment of the worldwide demand for sports car performance and characteristics in a vehicle that offers reasonable initial costs and moderate running expenses.” These words still resonate strongly among today’s MG TC enthusiasts.
