From 1965 to 1976, the Cadillac Calais served as the brand’s entry-level model, replacing the Series 62. The Calais name was inspired by the French city of Calais, and its design featured downward-canted tailfins and distinctive body lines. The rear bumper was straight and the lamp clusters were vertical, while the headlight pairs allowed for a wider grille.
The main differences between the Calais and the De Ville were in their respective levels of trim and standard equipment, with the latter including power brakes, power steering, and automatic transmission, while electric windows and seats were optional.
The Calais replaced was offered as a coupe, a sedan, or a pillarless four-door hardtop.
